I've always thought of my career as a series of projects, not jobs. Projects are things imagined, created and shipped. Sometimes they take on a life of their own and persist.

I have a two-part approach to building a career through projects. The first is to find partners who own the lion’s share of the upside in exchange for allowing me to focus on the work. The second is to build the network, chops and confidence to take on significant, complex projects. It's a niche that’s not very crowded.

For me, the key is to represent the project. I focus on a deep understanding of what the audience wants and speak up regularly to ensure they get it.
